Our Teachers

As per the Canada-British Columbia Early Learning and Child Care Agreement research into early childhood education has found that quality child care provided by qualified ECEs can provide positive developmental outcomes for all children.

Our Teachers are qualified Early Childhood Educators (ECE) and ECE Assistants (ECEA) with Childhood First Aid, and have clear Criminal Record Checks, who bring a variety of life experiences and interests to our classroom, which add to the colourful make up of our schools teaching environment.

Our teacher’s goals are to provide program excellence, valuing flexibility, cooperation, kindness, creativity and motivation by:

  • Capturing children’s natural curiosity and to encourage children to love learning
  • Engaging and supporting children in their learning of language, cognitive and motor skill development
  • Guiding children in social behaviour and self-regulation – taking turns, respecting another’s body, space and feelings, empathy, basic manners, toileting etiquette, eating etiquette, and problem solving
  • Accepting and celebrating the individuality of each child
  • Building strong realtionships with each child and family
  • Respecting the needs and choices of each child and family

ECE – Head Teacher Jenna – Working with children has always been a passion of mine. Going to University and getting my Early Childhood Educator Diploma, gave me a better foundation to build upon something I already knew. Children are smart, capable little beings. Curious about the world around them and full of great insight on how they view the world. The study of people in general is really fascinating to me. I am currently enrolled in University to get my Educational Assistant and Support Worker Certificate. I also work with SCACL on the Sunshine Coast, supporting people with disabilities. I have a son, Louis. He is 6 years old and loves to play baseball, go swimming and have play dates with friends. We are originally from Alberta but came for a visit to the Sunshine Coast, and decided we wanted to stay. We love the outdoors, the rain and the beach. My son went to preschool here and I’m so happy to be teaching at Jack and Jill.

ECEA – Teacher Robin – Early Childhood Education, Art & Nature based learning and its value to our communities future, is very important to me. I look forward to each day, where I can share with our students, my love of the outdoors and art, to explore anything that we encounter. I am currently enrolled at UBC to acquire my ECE diploma and am so happy to be at Jack and Jill, as the ECEA and who tends to the Administration duties of our school. I reside in Gibsons with my little family of 4, where we raise Icelandic sheep and am an active painter and fibre artist.

ECE – Teacher Susannah –

Hello! My name is Susannah and I have been a resident of the Sunshine Coast full time since 2011. Prior to that, my partner and I bought our first home here in 2006 and spent our time split between Vancouver and Gibsons.

I have always been passionate about fostering connection and relationships with people; and working with young children was a natural fit for me. I studied at Capilano University in the Early Childhood Education Program where I completed my Certification  in 2007. When I finished my program, I chose to spend some time getting to know the Coast better, and spent some time volunteering at Jack and Jill Preschool with Teacher Ann. I always knew I would want to send my own children to this preschool and have been proud to be a part of the Jack and Jill community for the four years as a parent and on the executive committee as President.

I am committed to providing a nurturing environment for children and families to play, explore, learn and grow. Open communication and inclusivity within relationships and community are a foundation of my personal philosophy as well as integral in my teaching philosophy. I love art, nature and literature and I look forward to sharing all of that with the children and families of Jack and Jill Preschool!
